Got a question about legal software? Ask Us!

Q:What legal software do I really need, and why?

A:This is an overly general question, it is necessary to identify what you and/or your firm's specific legal software needs are.

However, I will try to answer by addressing the broadest needs.

In my opinion, every firm will need redundant legal calendaring, some sort of a conflict of interest checker, and a legal tickler system to track deadlines. In these economic times, cost is always a huge consideration, and often times legal software packages are extremely expensive.

However, some legal software programs are realtively inexpensive and meet the needs of almost all law firms, take a look at Overseer Law Office Software, or some of the other legal software packages available on the web to try to find something that meets your needs and fits your budget.

Q:I see you refer to redundant calendaring, doesn't that just waste time?

A:I always recommend redundant legal calendaring. If something happens to your local network your legal calendar will be GONE! It is always necessary to have a back up. I recommend either a traditional paper calendar or an online legal calendar which stores data off site and backs that data up. Additionaly, I believe malpractice insurance carriers offer discounts for utilizing software which keeps deadlines and acts as a redundant calendaring system.
